______Research Question (10 points)

Grading criteria:

• Is the research question clearly stated and explained?

• Is the research question based on a communication issue?

• Is the research question focused on the past (before 1996)?

______Secondary sources (5 points)

Requirements:

• Minimum of two historical background studies: scholarly, contextual, or interpretive

• Full citation for each source using MLA Style

• An explanation of the studies’ relevance to the research question

• Verification that these sources are available in the Knight Library, through interlibrary loan or from other collections

______Original sources (10 points)

Requirements:

• Minimum of eight to 10 primary (original) sources from the selected time period

• Full citation for each source using MLA Style

• An explanation of the sources’ relevance to the research question

• Verification that these sources are available in the Knight Library, through interlibrary loan or from other collections

______Composition and overall quality (5 points)

Grading criteria:

• Does the proposal meet the requirements in terms of length, format, and timeliness?

• Is the proposal written in a manner expected of students who wish to become professional communicators, with attention to grammar, spelling, composition, etc.?
