a. Summarize and paraphrase your questions and the interviewee’s answers:

Example:

Q: Hi, Grandma. Thanks for doing this. So here’s my question: Can you tell me about a national or international event that had a lot of impact on your life?

A. Well, my life was changed when Hurricane Andrew hit Florida in 1992—or was it ’93?—because that’s when I left Miami and moved out to California to be near your parents.

Q. I can see how that would be a very big change in your life. But I wonder if you could think back a little further, to sometime before I was born, which was in 1985 (just in case you forgot the birthday of your favorite grandchild).

A. I know when you were born! Don’t be sassy! Something that changed my life, eh? I guess that would be the U.S. invasion of Grenada in 1983 when my nephew was killed. Only 19 U.S. soldiers died, and he was one of them.

Q: I’m so sorry. I’ve heard my parents say that was really hard on the family.

A. Yes, it was. My sister—your great-aunt Marge—really has never recovered.

Q. Can you think back to how the Grenada invasion was covered in the newspapers and tell me a little about that?

A. You know, it was a big surprise to everybody. We didn’t even know it was going to happen and then after it happened, nobody seemed to care that American boys had died. I don’t remember anything about that in the newspapers….

b. Write out completely two (or more) direct quotes from your interview that will be useful as evidence in your paper.
