Peninsula Park Redesign |
|
| This project is for
a "co-housing" project in a post war apartment building
across the street from Peninsula Park in North Portland. The
residents and owners of the co-housing building would like to tear
down the unused garages to the north of their building and add up
to four new units, including one two bedroom unit. They also
would like storage for common tools and equipment. This plan
includes moving their laundry from the basement of the the existing
building and moving the common areas from within the existing
building as well. This allows a rainwater cache in the
basement to be used in the common garden area. The old common
areas will be converted back into a residence. The new common
areas include a fool living, dining, and kitchen as well as two Japanese style soaking tubs and a wet bar.
The exterior walls of these areas open to create one large indoor/outdoor
social space. Provisions have also been made for the storage
of a shared truck, outdoor sports equipment, and recycling
stations. The new building(s) provide two two bedroom units
and a one bedroom unit. Two units have vaulted dining areas
and one unit has French doors that open on to a view of the
park. The central courtyard has a fountain to assist in
passive cooling and the courtyard is paved in permeable brick and
thyme squares. |
