New Installation and License Renewal of SAS for Windows

Version 8.2 and Version 9.1.3

University of Oregon faculty, staff, and students who want to perform statistical analyses or who need to manage small to large data files may install the most recently released version of SAS software (9.1.3) on their personal computers. This installation includes loading SAS on laptops and personal computers located off-campus.

Through early October, 2004, Version 8.2 of SAS was the software to install; it will still run and depending on your computer (or for other reasons) it may still be the program you need to install. However, with the release of Version 9.2 in the near future, support for Version 8.2 may diminish in the next few months. To check how SAS supports previous releases, you may read their policy at:

http://support.sas.com/techsup/support.html#non-current

The license files to renew both versions 8.2 and 9.1.3 through July, 2008 are currently available (see section 2 below for instructions).

If you currently have Version 8.2 installed and don't know whether you should upgrade to 9.1.3, keep in mind that eventually version 9 (and subsequent releases) will be the standard on most systems, not only at the University of Oregon but also in industry and other educational institutions. It will likely be of great benefit for you to learn its new features.

If you do not already have SAS Version 8.2 installed on your computer or if you want to upgrade to Version 9.1.3, go to Section 1. New SAS Installation. The upgrade to 9.1.3 requires you to go through a completely new installation process. Note that you may have both versions 8 and 9 installed on your PC simultaneously.

PLEASE NOTE: Whether you acquire a license for renewal or a new installation it is important that each year every user of SAS register his or her copy of the program individually as instructed on this page so that we remain in compliance with our licensing terms with the SAS Institute which require us to keep an accurate count of the number of users we have on campus. This requirement doesn't apply to laboratory computers, but it does apply to SAS loaded on individual computers whether you are faculty, student, or staff.
