Alternative for doing Martin and Simmons readings:

The Martin and Simmons book that is required for the course is not available on reserve.  However, all of the articles are available free online, IF you either do it from campus or get in thru the modem pool or use VPN (virtual private network) software.

Go to the University of Oregon Library website: http://libweb.uoregon.edu/  and then:

  1. In the middle column of the page here is a field titled “... or select an index by name, starting with…A-Z…  Scroll down and select “J.”
  2. Select the JSTOR: Electronic Journal Archive
  3. If you are accessing the Library’s website from off campus you will need to log in at this point.  Please see the information desk at Knight Library if you have any questions or problems with this.
  4. Click on search to begin searching for the articles.
  5. Type in the title of the article (table of contents is below) and press search.  In the results list you may have to scroll down a few first.

For example, type in “Interests, Power, and Multilateralism” by Lisa Martin.

  1. Click on the title in the results list and the article will open.
  2. At the top of the page there is a link to download the article.  Click this.  Alternatively, if you want to print this directly, click print at the top of the page and click “proceed with printing.”
  3. If you click “download” there are several options for downloading JSTOR articles.  I generally recommend doing this as a PDF.  Click on the format you would like to save the article in and it will come up in that format.
  4. Print it or save it to print later.  These directions can be used to research topics such as “compliance with environmental treaties,” in addition to specific articles.  [By the way, these search terms bring up an article titled “Regime Design Matters: Intentional Oil Pollution and Treaty Compliance” that is assigned for week 9.]
