Focusing your reading effort

The course structure is slightly different from that of the Managing Global Issues (MGI) book and so, I would advise you, in doing the readings in the MGI book to focus on the following sections of the required chapters during the corresponding section of the course but read the rest of the chapter to help you learn more that will help you understand international organization better (and do better on the midterms and final).

During weeks 2 and 3 on
"The Structure of International Problems"

Focus reading in MGI chapters on those sections entitled:

Nature of Problem

Actors

Of course, also make sure you read the other sections of these chapters.

During weeks 4, 5, and 6 on
International Institutions and Other Responses

Focus reading in MGI chapters on those sections entitled:

Track Record

Agenda setting

Negotiation

The International Response

Of course, also make sure you read the other sections of these chapters.

During weeks 7, 8, and 9 on
The Effects of International Institutions

Focus reading in MGI chapters on those sections entitled:

Implementation and Compliance

Reactions to Noncompliance

Of course, also make sure you read the other sections of these chapters.
