Shredding

With the confidential materials contract, materials needing to be shredded should be handled directly by Archives (346-1899) and not through Campus Recycling. There has been a noticeable increase in the amount of shredded materials collected for recycling.

Shredding is an expensive process for individual offices to maintain and is unnecessary as University Archives is making sure that all material is handled securely through our confidential materials contract.

Additionally, shredded material breaks down the effectiveness of Campus Recycling as follows:

Often carbon coated paper gets shredded into other marketable paper. This material is garbage and contaminates the recycling process.

As shredded paper is confidential material, Campus Recycling does not collect it. Please contact UO Archives (346-1899) for more information on handling this material through the confidential materials handling contract.
