Starting Wage: $9 per hour for one month trial and then to $9.25 per hour
Hours Per Week: 20+
Schedule: Flexible
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid driver's license and good driving record (sufficient to obtain U of O Driver Certification Card)
Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
Good physical condition
Scheduling availability (as indicated below)
Good communication, public relations, and customer service skills
Good supervisory, staffing, and training skills
Good organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work well unsupervised
Effectiveness at recycling and compost education and promotion
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position provides primary recycling services and staffing to campus events as noted below and as dictated by future event additions/expansion. Duties include:
Acting as the direct, on-site recycling supervisor for all major events and event staff
Ensuring recycling staffing for all events through a combination of paid Student Recyclers and volunteers
Training events staff in the proper performance of their duties
Educating events attendees in proper recycling procedures, and promoting events recycling through direct educational contact, signage, and advance promotions
Ensuring vendor adherence to events recycling procedures through direct, educational contact and promotional materials
Managing and expanding the Program's compost efforts
Tracking events recycling/recovery and composting
Maintaining an up-to-date events procedures and policies manual
Promoting events recycling and composting to increase participation
Ensuring the proper disposition of all event-generated materials and compost
Performing routine Program maintenance tasks as needed
Keeping abreast of developments in the industry as they affect position duties
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Student Events Recycling Coordinator is required to: work weekend and evening hours as dictated by event scheduling; work outdoors in weather which may be inclement; supervise event staff; interact professionally with event staff, attendees, participants, and vendors; and accomplish events recycling tasks and meet recycling goals in an unsupervised setting. Position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push, pull, bend, stoop, climb stairs and use handtrucks. Good defensive driving skills are required.
AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
The Student Event Recycling Coordinator must be available to work 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule for all school terms and the summer. Schedule will allow for both event schedules and student class meeting days/times. Events can include weekday, evening, and weekend work. Event planning, staffing and staff training will also require regular, weekday work in preparation for events. Summer scheduling can be up to 40 hours per week provided the student is not a full-time summer session student.
