INTERVIEW

Job Background - Explain and discuss with interviewee.

- Duties - Note that the job entails the following:

    1. Heavy Lifting.
    2. Working in inclement weather.
    3. Cleaning up messes and handling dirty materials.
    4. Working within a team framework, with a partner, etc..
    5. Driving large vans according to program procedures and safety guidelines.
    6. Sorting recyclables accurately and productively.
    7. Adhering to program work rules and safety guidelines.
    8. Receiving and acting upon a good deal of communication from the program.
    9. Accurately conveying information back to the program as needed.

- General Employment Expectations

    1. Timeliness and punctuality.
    2. Good attendance.
    3. Commitment to adhering to a schedule for the duration of the term.
    4. A willingness to take instructions and feedback and to adhere to all program policies.
    5. Timeliness in submitting requested information to the program such as availability schedules.
    6. Willingness to work Finals Week, and to start working at the beginning of each term.
    7. Demonstrated ability to work well, safely and productively without supervision.

- Training

    1. 4 hours of new-employee paid orientation required prior to beginning work.
    2. 1.5 hours of van training prior to being allowed to drive.
    3. Regular crew meetings during the term which are mandatory and may be held after-hours.

New employees are hired at the pay rate of $6.75 per hour on a 1-month trial-period basis, during which time both the program and the employee can evaluate the employment relationship. Employees invited to remain after the end of the trial period will complete an additional five months of employment (for a total of 6 months) before becoming eligible for a $0.25 per-hour raise. Evaluations and raises of $0.25 per hour are then administered every 12 months for the duration of employment.
