| This is what happened at the meeting: 1. Introductions: President - Robin Waldvogel Vice President - Vivian Yau (Thanks for bringing the snacks and drinks!) Secretary/Treasurer - Erica Broderick 2. Description of the club: This club is open to anyone interested in animal related professions. We offer students an opportunity for field trips, guest speakers, volunteer work, and help answering questions about the difficult tasks of preparing for graduate school. 3. Volunteer Opportunities: This Saturday morning (October 9th) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm the Pre-Vet Club will be conducting a Pet Therapy session at Farmington Square, the retirement home on the corner of Coburg Road and Baily Lane. If you did not sign up at the meeting and are available to help, please contact Robin (rwaldvog@gladstone.uoregon.edu) for more information. Include your name, phone number, and e-mail address so she can coordinate with you. Charlene Larison mentioned that the Eugene Spay and Neuter Clinic is looking for volunteers, probably weekday mornings. The phone number at the clinic is 682-3043 if you are interested. 4. Events: |
GUEST SPEAKER The summary of the presentation went out yesterday, so read that for more information. We signed a thank you card for Dr. Sandra Smalley for coming to speak with us. PRESENTATIONS This Friday, Nora Terwilliger will be presenting in 123 Pacific at 3:30 pm. Professor Terwilliger is stationed at OIMB and the presentation has been recommended by many professors this week. Also, this Wednesday, there is a presentation on the creation and evolution debate at 7:00 pm. I think it is in 100 Willamette, but you might want to stop by the biology advising office to be sure. PET THERAPY If you are available to attend the pet therapy session this Saturday, November 6th, please email Robin (rwaldvog@gladstone) and Erica (eerkkila@gladstone). We need to know ASAP if people can attend so we can plan on getting dogs and letting Farmington Square know what time we will be coming (probably from 10:00 to 11:30). PET SAFETY PROGRAM This is for local elementary classes and we plan on doing a presentation about pets, dog bite prevention and other animal related items. Let Robin know if you are interested in participating (rwaldvog@gladstone). FERAL CAT COALITION Tenatively scheduled for Sunday, December 5th, the coalition will come to spay and neuter feral cats in the university area. We are still working on the details and will let everyone know what is going on. KAPLAN PRESENTATION There will be a free Kaplan Presentation entitled: "Is medical school for me?". It will last 15-30 minutes on November 17th. More on this later. OSU REPRESENTATIVE Is anyone interested in doing the leg work with contacting the OSU pre-vet club and arranging events with them (such as our visit to the vet program there)? Let Robin know (rwaldvog@gladstone). LARGE ANIMAL VETERINARIAN GUEST SPEAKER Does anyone know of a large animal vet that could come speak to the group? Let Robin know (rwaldvog@gladstone). |

| Monday January 10th Meeting Minutes: Basically we discussed if the meeting time will work for everyone. We need more feedback from everyone else: would a Monday or Tuesday meeting time be better for you? What time works? Meetings will be held every third week (so our next one will be the week of January 31st). We are trying to plan to go to OSU and sit in on a class. If you are interested, please contact Robin or I. |
GUEST SPEAKER On Monday, February 21st Dr. Danica Salomun will be speaking to us at 6:30 p.m. in 25 Klamath. We plan on having pizza, so please reply to me (eerkkila@gladstone.uoregon.edu) or Robin (prevet@darkwing.uoregon.edu) so we know how much to get. Please email us even if you cannot come so that we know you are still interested in the club. Also, email me any questions you have for the quest speaker (who is a small animal veterinarian) by Sunday evening, February 6th so we can give Dr. Salomun a compiled list. FERAL
