IT in Foreign Language Instruction
Media (such as Language Lab
Facilities) have long been a component of language
instruction. Now such labs contain a lot of IT.
And, many students have access to similar IT from
locations outside of the lab.

IT is quite useful in foreign language instruction. In
addition, machine translation has now reached the stage that
it is widely used. Voice input to computer, with machine
translation, is beginning to come into widespread use. And,
there are many search engines in many different languages.
Go to http://www.cyberdifference.com/
and click on Foreign Search Engine Directory in the left
column. Also take a look at Google, and click on the
Language
Tools menu item.

JANUS Speech-to-Speech Machine Translation
Speech-to-Speech Translation of Spontaneous

partners of the C-STAR consortium, current set of
languages covered includes English, German, Japanese,

Fluency Foreign language accent correction
Fluency uses speech recognition (SPHINX II) to help
users perfect their accents in a foreign language. The
system detects pronunciation errors, such as duration
mistakes and incorrect phones, and offers visual and
aural suggestions as to how to correct them. The user can
also listen to himself and to a native speaker.
