State Museum of Anthropology

Research Division

The Research Division, a separate and self-supporting division of the Museum of Natural and Cultural History, conducts archaeological research under contract with state agencies and a few large corporations, in compliance with federal and state cultural resource protection laws, as well as through grants and other awards. The Museum currently conducts archaeological work for the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Division.

The Research Division functions with nine PhD level administrators and one MS level administrator and regularly provides part-time employment for graduate and undergraduate students. A huge amount of research on Oregon archaeology, history, and paleoecology is represented by these endeavors. Scholarly reports on them are issued in the University of Oregon Anthropological Papers, in partnership with the University of Oregon Anthropology Department, and in State Museum of Anthropology Reports.
