Paved Roads

When people think of mountain bike rides, images of muddy roads and dirty single-track trails usually come to mind. Most mountain bikes, however, are never ridden in these conditions. The original intent of this Lane County mountain bike guide was to cover dirt roads and trails. While researching these rides, we discovered an excellent selection of rides on paved roads. Most have smooth, paved surfaces and very little traffic, especially on weekends. The majority of the roads mentioned in this book have been built for the removal of timber from higher elevations. Many of these logging roads have gentle gradients. Such roads make for ideal family outings, or good "warm up" rides for those who haven't spent much time riding. These road rides offer many of the same experiences that the off-road cyclist finds: lovely scenery, little traffic, and fresh air.
