Larison Creek Trail passes along the Hills Creek Reservoir, then through dense old growth forest, into a plantation forest, and finally through about 1 mile of recent clearcut. This trail represents how riparian zones are managed by both public and private agencies. The final mile of trail is private timberland.
To drive to the trailhead, go east 1.3 miles of Oakridge on Highway 58; turn south at the Hills Creek Reservoir sign. Turn right onto Road 21. Stay on Road 21 for about 5 miles until you reach the Larison Creek trailhead.
To ride it as a loop, ride 3 miles back down Road 21; turn left on Larison Rock Road 2102. Ride 1.5 miles to the intersection of spur Road 101. Follow Road 101 for 9 miles of pleasant, rolling terrain to the upper trailhead.
Once at the trailhead, take a break and consider a few things. First, the trail goes through some magnificent Douglas fir old growth. Second, because of this feature, the trail receives a high level of use by hikers, generally coming up the trail. Expect to meet others and control your speed.
From the upper trailhead, it is 6.5 miles of single-track trail. You begin with a twisting descent through a recent clearcut, then into the forest for 2 miles of challenging technical riding. If you like sharp switchbacks, you will love this trail. This ride also offers fantastic swimming opportunities!
