If you want to avoid most of the climbs found on the southern portion of the Aulderheide, drive the first 20 miles to Kiahanie Campground. From here it is a scenic 6 mile ride to Constitution Grove. The Forest Service dedicated this 200 year old grove of Douglas fir for the Bicentennial of the Constitution. On the way, the road takes the rider through various stages of forest management: clearcuts to ancient forests. This ride is well suited for touring and road bikes. The surface is smooth with a few uphill grades. Along the way, there are many spur roads the curious off-road rider will enjoy. Once at Constitution Grove, the road rises steeply for 3 miles to the saddle at Box Canyon.
Kiahanie, a quiet campground nestled among ancient Douglas firs, is an excellent place to stage day rides. You'll find a couple of days of great riding from here.
