Follow Hwy. 126 through Springfield and Hwy. 20 over Santiam Pass towards Sisters. Turn north on Hwy. 14 toward Camp Sherman and Metolius River. Park at the Riverside Campground.


The trailhead is marked by yellow diamond markers on trees to your right just as you turn off Hwy. 14 onto the campground road The trail slowly winds uphill, crossing logging roads, for about 5 miles until you reach the ridgetop. The trail continues north along the ridge alternating between single & double tracks for about 10 miles and offers great views of the Metolius River valley and Cascades peaks, including an spectacular glimpse of Mt. Jefferson. Continue to watch for the yellow diamond markers until reaching the Lookout Tower. From here continue on the spur road until reaching Rd. 1490. A 5 mile descent along 1490 returns you to Hwy. 14. South on Hwy. 14 leads 8 miles back to Riverside Campground.
