Useful information:

Dormitories and Dining Hall: If you plan to live in the dormitory you must contact OIMB to reserve a space. The undergraduate dormitories at OIMB are individual or double rooms with a bed, desk, chest of drawers, wardrobe, and bookshelves. Ethernet jacks are available in all of the dormitories should you bring your own computer. Ethernet cables are not provided. Meals are served daily in the dining hall and good food is a tradition at OIMB. Laundry facilities are available and pets are not allowed on the OIMB campus.

Information for students living in the dorms in Eugene:

Dorm students in Eugene need to be aware of the following information: Students with a housing contract may petition for a release from the contract in order to attend OIMB. BUT, unless the student is a graduating student or otherwise not planning to return to UO dorms, they should at THE SAME TIME, petition for return to the UO dorms. Otherwise, they will go to the bottom of the list of choices and availabilities.

Room and board:

Room and board costs $175 per week. Students living off campus may purchase meals on a pro-rated basis in the dining hall.

Study areas:

The Loyd and Dorothy Rippey Library is staffed on Monday - Thursday, but is open to students 24 hours a day as are the five laboratory classrooms and the boathouse auditorium.

What to bring:

For the dorm: bedding and a pillow, a padlock for the wardrobe units.
For classes: Knee high rubber boots, a raincoat and rain pants, paper and writing supplies. Textbooks and dissecting supplies are available for purchase at OIMB and course specific supply needs are posted with each course or will be sent when you register for the term.

Traveling to OIMB:

By land (in your own car):

Take Highway 101 to Coos Bay or North Bend. Follow signs to "Ocean Beaches", "Charleston", or "Sunset Bay". Charleston is approximately eight miles from Coos Bay. As you enter Charleston, cross the South Slough bridge and turn right on Boat Basin Drive. OIMB is approximately one-half mile on the left at 63566 Boat Basin Drive. Driving from Eugene takes two-and-a-half hours. Driving from Portland takes about five hours.

By land (via Greyhound/Porter Bus Lines):

Porter Bus Lines (541-269-7183) provides service to Coos Bay.You can book bus rides at the Greyhound web site. The Coos Bay terminal is about 15 minutes from OIMB contact Yellow Cab Taxi (541-267-3111) to to make transport arrangements OIMB.

By air:

Horizon Air has service to North Bend (OTH via Portland) four times per day. Flight time is approximately one hour. OIMB is 15 minutes from the airport contact Yellow Cab Taxi (541-267-3111) to make transport arrangements to OIMB.

The Village of Charleston:

The OIMB campus is located in the fishing village of Charleston. A five-minute walk takes you downtown to the general stores, a couple restaurants, a post office, and a coffee shop. OIMB is eight miles from the cities of Coos Bay and North Bend with their airport, public libraries, movie theaters, stores, and large ocean ship docks.

OIMB is located close to a diversity of extraordinary marine habitats as well as outdoor recreation sites:

Hiking and biking trails
Cape Arago State Park
Sunset Bay State Park
Shore Acres State Park
