BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME...
ARRIVING IN EUGENE...
GETTING STARTED AT THE UO...
This is my first time at the UO. How can I get some help on campus?
Beginning September 1st, come to our hospitality table on 3rd floor of the EMU. Students and OIEE staffs will be there to answer your questions! I am worried about not getting the classes I want. I would like to register for my classes as soon as possible. Try not to worry now about getting into the classes you want. When you meet with an Academic Adviser during Orientation, you will have the chance to organize your schedule. Schedule of classes and registration are available online now. Refer to the UO webpages for more information about Academic Advising and Student Services. Freshman Interest Groups: The University of Oregon developed Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs) are designed to allow new undergraduate students to:
How and where do I pay my tuition? Do I pay before I register?
Generally, you do not pay prior to registration. You will have 10-day grace period from the due date stated on your bill. Find more information on payment policies and procedures on the web pages of the Business Affairs Office.
If I am a transfer student from another US Institution, do I really need the International Student Orientation (ISO) ?
We strongly encourage all International Students new to the UO and the Eugene-Springfield community to attend the International Student Orientation. ISO provides information to aid your transition, academic advising, immigration responsibilities, and health care and insurance. It is also a great way to meet new friends. Have a look at the overview of ISO '2000 Events, and you'll see that there will be a lot of useful and entertaining activities offered this year.
As a transfer student, are there any particular immigration requirements I have to follow?
You need to bring your I-20 to the Office of International Education and Exchange (OIEE) to be processed no later than 15 days after the beginning of classes.
Because of the high cost of medical care in the U.S., international students and accompanying family dependents are required by the UO to be covered by health and accident insurance. This insurance must be at least comparable to the policy offered by the UO. The UO insurance plan is designed for international students and has benefits connected with the use of the Student Health Center. The UO insurance is effective from the first day of International Student Orientation.
All international students, except Graduate Teaching Fellows (GTFs), are automatically enrolled in the UO international student insurance plan and are billed for the cost of the plan unless they have been granted an insurance waiver. For more information, please refer to the Student Health Insurance website. If you are a GTF, you should discuss your insurance options with the UO insurance coordinator and the Graduate Teaching Fellow Federation (GTFF).
How do I get in touch with other students from my country?
International students are very active on the UO campus. International student associations are a great way to meet people and get involved in the campus community. These associations will host their own meetings during ISO.
There are webcams from Allen Hall, Lawrence Hall, Computing Center if you'd like to get live pictures from campus! Oregon is full of beautiful and interesting places to discover.
