On Art

These photographs I like very much, they make for good.

--From the comment book in the EMU art gallery, where visitors respond to the current exhibit. If a picture is worth a thousand words, it must have been one awful exhibit.

I love the squirrel. Clarity in blur. Not just capturing non-human life, but capturing the life led by this flying squirrel :)

--Also from the comment book in the EMU art gallery. You're supposed to take the drugs when you're creating art, not critiquing it.

On the Obvious

And Beethoven's later works were nearly incomprehensible... well, he was deaf.

--Professor Earl. You can deny the obvious for only so long...

On Easy Targets

Obviously I'm not a political science major.

--Student Senator Jenna Wasson on her qualifications for the job.

Driving the DDS van is a lot like trying to get a straight answer from the ASUO Exec: It's very difficult to do.

--Kent Black, Student Senate Vice-President and Scott Baio aficionado, at a recent Senate meeting, on why the Designated Driiver Shuttle needs a new van.

On Charity

Sorry, man I, I only have big bills.

--ASUO President Bill Miner, responding to a destitute guy who wanted some money.

On Diversity

On a practical level, it's known that if there's a person like you you are more at peace to talk to them. If all the professors are male Caucasians there are certain issues I don't talk to them about.

--3PM major Consuela Zumwalt commenting on the lack of diversity among UO faculty. You know, it's funny--we thought the whole point of this diversity thing was to make an effort to get comfortable with different people, not consciously exclude them.

On Realistic Self-Image

The paper is a great opportunity to use your voice and become more involved in your community. You don't need to have any skills to work on the paper...

From the Oct. 15 issue of the Student Insurgent. No skills? That's pretty self-evident. The more inchoate you mind is, the easier you become a victim of Marxist/socialist oppression. Har! Har! Avast ye scurvy dogs! Prepare to be boarded like capitalist swine!

The Student Insurgent: We do nothing for your resume.

--Also from the same issue of the Insurgent. We appreciate the much needed attempt at humor so often lacking in the Insurgent, we really do. If these kids keep at it and try real hard maybe they can master really difficult concepts like irony.

On Just Nuts

He that outlives this day and comes safe home, will stand a-tiptoe when this day is named.

--The punchline to the October 12 edition of Peanuts. No, what Snoopy is saying doesn't make anymore sense in context either. Yes, after 40 years Charles Schulz is going completely @#$%! senile.
