Cafeteria Propaganda
Hae you checked out the propaganda in the Hamilton cafeteria lately? Talk about a pathetic guilt trip--"The Hamilton cafeteria throws away than 1500 pounds of food per day." And what are we supposed to do about that? Monitor the amount they make; besides, how many people eat in there a day? 4000? 5000?
Here's the killer: "33,000 people go hungry in Eugene each day." Go figure.
By the way, are you accepting applications?

Hail the Commentator
I recently moved here from Buffalo, NY because I love to mountain bike, ski, and a whole host of other outdoor activities. I knew that Eugene and UO had some of the best of these things, and I figured it would also have lots of people who enjoyed these things as much as I did, especially in the Outdoor Pursuit Hall. Not so. I found myself teleported to some nonstop Grateful Dead concert. I quickly found out that the difference between these people and the normal run of the mill dirtbags was that they had a mountain bike (usually used to get pot from friends who live too far to walk) hanging in their dorm while they got high and bitched about the evils of capitalistic dogma while listening to countless hours of Grateful Dead bootleg tapes. So you can imagine how glad I was when I saw your paper right there next to a lovely little paper that contained a poem about the difference between the words Asian and oriental...
So, as it appears that the people involved in this magazine are the only sane bunch in town I have a question.
I have noticed that there is a black student union, a Jewish student union, the gay and lesbian coalition, etc... which are all fine other than the fact that they create segregation, something that I thought most of them were trying to fight.

More from Steve
Hello again, the other three statements I wanted to make were:
1) Two weeks ago, I opened a door for a human that I saw out of the corner of my eye. This human was about 5'10" and had a crew cut. I thought it was a man. I was wrong. It was a woman who promptly walked through another and very rudely said, "Welcome to feminists on campus." What the hell was that? What kind of world do we live in where a simple act of courtesy can get that kind of response?
2)Do any people so vehemently supporting socialism really know what it entails? Has anyone bothered to tell them that in socialist country they don't get Dad's old beemer, airfare to a Phish concert halfway across the country, and spending money for their trip from their parents? Or that every attempt at socialism (even on a small scale) has met with disaster?
3) On a more philosophical note... My acts of kindness are never random, and I have never considered anything senseless very beautiful.
