Subject: Bike Repair cleanup plan

BRC Bike Repair & Divinity School Cleanup Plan:

Pedal Camp withstanding; I believe that "Bike Repair Camp" has a fairly good record for cleanup...and every year we try and make it easier on ourselves and on our beloved home.

Our major defense against MOOP is to stop it at the source.

We insist that all work done in our shop be done on some sort of floor. Either carpet or plywood, or in the shipping container. All welding/cutting/grinding is done IN the container.

We try to educate all those that come thorough our shop on the concept of Leave No Trace...the only way you are allowed to leave something in our space is if we agree that we can find it a better home. That rubber band that came with your new inner-tube is YOUR responsibility...but we'd be happy to take the old tube off your hands.

Every evening when we close down for the night, we sweep camp to ensure that nothing has/will become MOOP in our absence. During the day we always have many hands on deck to batten down, so even the most sudden of windstorms is unlikely to catch us off guard.

Our primary area's of concern are making sure that "customers" don't leave trash for us, and that "parts bikes" from our fence are properly managed so they don't drop parts into the playa. We have separated recycling, and we try to hide the fact that we have an actual "trash" from everyone who is not actually working for us.

After the event, cleanup for us is a relatively simple matter:

Monday is essentially a day of rest; we slowly sort and through the debris and organize what we have left into two piles. That what stays, and that what goes. That what stays is placed in our storage container for next year, and that what goes is stacked or packed.

Tuesday or Wednesday (weather/hangover dependent) begins the real push to leave. The vehicles are packed and the shade structure taken down and stacked for pickup by DPW. The work mats are rolled up and stored in the container, and the area(s) around/beneath them are gone over with a fine tooth comb.

We've lost items into the playa due to dust storms during clean-up in the past, and will try even harder to avoid that this year.
