Air travel to Eugene

This page contains some information on air travel to Eugene, and is intended for the use of participants in conferences at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Oregon.

Here is a list of airlines that serve the Eugene airport. United and Horizon (a commuter line for Alaska and Northwest) have been in Eugene for a long time, and Skywest (a commuter line for Delta) has been here for several years. In the last few years, several other airlines have started service to Eugene and then dropped it after several months, so the information here may well be outdated quickly.

The Eugene airport is about 10 miles (about 15 km) out of town. The local bus system (1995 fare 80 cents, exact change only) makes several trips a day to the airport, but not enough to be very useful. A taxi to the University of Oregon costs about $16 excluding tip (1993 price). A slightly cheaper alternative is the Express Cab Co. and Shuttle. It charges $12 to the University of Oregon or any Eugene motel (1995 price), but reservations are required (at least 4 hours in advance in Sept. 1995). Call 541-341-8444 or 541-741-0564. There may be other alternatives as well. (About four national rental car companies have offices at the Eugene airport. Since you will not need a car if you stay at one of the motels close to campus, using a rental car as transportation from the airport is unlikely to be cost effective.)

Most major U.S. airlines, and a number of foreign ones, serve the Portland International Airport. This airport is a bit over two hours by car (on the freeway) from Eugene. Ground transportation from there to Eugene, however, is somewhat inconvenient. Get from the airport to the Greyhound bus terminal in downtown Portland (by taxi, bus, ...; I don't know the details, but it is some distance). Then take Greyhound to Eugene. There are a number of trips daily, taking about 2.5 hours. Fare is $12 one way (1993 price). Call Greyhound at 800-231-2222 for further information. The Eugene Greyhound terminal is about a 15-20 minute walk from the University of Oregon campus, and there is frequent city bus service both to the campus and the motels close to campus (1995 fare 80 cents, exact change only).
