NOTICE OF THE TWENTY-NINTH ANNUAL MEETING

The twenty-ninth annual meeting of CAPN will take place in Spokane, Washington at the Ridpath Hotel on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20, 1999.

Detailed information regarding the conference schedule and accommodations will be published in the February issue of the CAPN Bulletin.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Members are invited to submit abstracts of papers on all subjects of special interest to classicists. Abstracts of 100-150 words should be submitted by January 10, 1999 to Sarah Keller, Department of Geography-Anthropology, MS-52, Eastern Washington University, Cheney, Washington 99004, USA. Please indicate any special equipment that you may need to present you paper. Papers should not be more than fifteen minutes in length, the abstracts of which will be published in the Fall 1999 issue of the CAPN Bulletin. Abstracts may be submitted in hardcopy, by disc (Word for Mac) or by e-mail (skeller@ewu.edu).

MINUTES OF THE 1998 CAPN MEETING

4 April 1998, Portland, Oregon

1. The Meeting was called to order at approximately 1:00 PM.

2. The minutes of the 1997 annual meeting were approved.

3. Report on Regional Associations: It was reported that Catherine Connors attended the meeting of Regional Associations at the APA meeting in Chicago.

4. National Committee on Latin and Greek: It was moved, seconded and passed that CAPN contribute 165.00 as we had last year to the NCLG.

5. American Classical League: Ralph Mohr has kindly agreed to serve as CAPN's representative to the American Classical League.

6. Treasurer's report: Catherine Connors presented the Treasurer's report (please see the report in this Bulletin).

7. Report of the Scholarship Committee: The membership voted to approve the following scholarship awards proposed by the Scholarship Committee:

8. New Officers. The following slate of officers was elected:

President: Fred Lauritsen, Eastern Washington University
Vice President: Ingrid Holmberg, University of Victoria
Secretary - Treasurer: Catherine Connors, University of Washington
Editor of the CAPN Bulletin: Alain Gowing, University of Washington

Executive Committee: Fred Lauritsen, Eastern Washington University; Ingrid Holmberg, University of Victoria; Linda Rutland Gillison, University of Montana; Alain Gowing, University of Washington; Catherine Connors, University of Washington.

Plans were discussed for holding a joint meeting of CAPN and CACW in Victoria in 2000, on the model of the successful joint meeting held in Banff in 1995.

9. New Business: Rick Williams called for volunteers to serve on the Scholarship Committee; Ingrid Holmberg and Lorina Quartarone kindly agreed to serve.

The membership thanked Karen Carr for her work in organizing the successful and pleasant meeting at Portland State, and the Portland State Friends of History for their contribution in support of the meeting. Fred Lauritsen extended an invitation to next yearÍs meeting in Spokane on March 19-20, 1999.

10. The meeting was adjourned.
