John McManus

(541) 346-3761M

John McManus is professor emeritus at the University of Oregon where he served 1967-1983 as undergraduate coordinator, supervisor of student teachers, teacher of woodwinds and music education, and performed clarinet with the faculty woodwind quintet. He has also served as director of bands and supervisor of music in the public schools where he was selected as Oregon's Teacher of the Year and as one of five finalists for the corresponding national award.

He earned his Bachelor of Music degree at Northwestern University and his Master's degree at Columbia University. He has been a member of the Music Educators National Conference Board of Control, the National Commission on Instruction, President of the Oregon Music Educators Association, and the Music Educators Journal Editorial Board.

Since his retirement McManus can be complimented for the compilation of most of the School of Music's historical timeline, gathering notes from UO catalogs, yearbooks, registered and board minutes.
