Irving Mackay Glen
Dean, School of Music (1902-1911)
Professor of English Language & Early English Literature, Professor
of Music, Director of University Glee Club, Mandolin Club, English
Literature, Director of Eugene Oratorio Society
Dean Glen offered two lecture courses. The School of Music at
that time consisted of four departments including piano, voice,
violin, and mandolin. The Glee Club made itself and its institution
known throughout the state, largely through the help of Dean Glen.
The less widely known, Treble Clef, also furnished good training
for the women of the university. The Eugene Oratorio Society contributed
much to musical culture by the study of one or more of the standard
oratorios. It was offered every winter since its organization in
1896. Dean Glen contributed to all the success of the university
in musical matters and exercised a lively interest in the strengthening
of his departments.
