Focus on Children

What is the purpose of ths program? Family changes can be stressful for parents and children. "Focus on Children" is a three and one-half hour, multi-media program designed to help parents focus on and respond well to children's needs during divorce or separation. The program is conducted by qualified professionals employed by Lane County.

• Parents' rights and responsibilities
• Custody and parenting plans
• When children are at risk
• Adjustment of children and parents to new family structures
• Community resources

Who must attend the program? You must attend if you are the parent of a child under 18, AND you are a party in a Lane County dissolution (divorce), legal separation, or legal action to establish custody or parenting time. Lane County Circuit Court Local Rule 8.012 sets forth the consequences for parents who fail to attend "Focus on Children" or a similar class.

What if I live outside of Lane County? You may attend a similar class if one is offered in the county where you live. Call "Focus on Children" at 541-682-2070 to request the location of the class closest to where you live. If there is no program in your area and it is not possible for you to attend in Lane County, you may apply to waive the class requirement.

What is the cost of the program? The cost of the class is $45 for each person who attends. A check or money for $45 payable to "Focus on Children" must be enclosed with your registration form for you to be enrolled in the program. If you are unable to pay the full amount, call "Focus on Children" at 541-682-2070 to request a fee reduction application.
