Planning the site layout (visual appearance)
- navigation
- what path will most readers take through your web?
- what tools will you provide for finding information?
suggestion: offer alternative finding techniques (index, back
links, hyperlinks, alternative "views", search engine, etc.)
- structure
- typical model is a tree of pages, but there is no guarantee
people will actually use that structure
- make sure your readers can understand/predict the structure
of the site
- make sure that individual pages can be used out of context
- look and feel
- what overall graphical appearance?
suggestion: what adjectives describe how you want readers to
feel about your site?
- what common design elements will tie it together?
suggestion: choose a common gridding for all your pages, and
common header and footer elements
