Why a problem?

• short half-life of typical webbed information
• high rate of technological change requiring changes in format
• surfers sample, and look for novelty
• links you point to can change too

What to do?

• design initially for change (e.g. in file naming conventions)
• invest in upkeep
• automate your procedures (consistency checking, style checking, link verification, "new" pages, backup, etc.)
• revisit your goals periodically
• solicit user feedback (e.g. webmaster@www.uoregon.edu)
• highlight changes
