Laura N. Gasaway

Professor of law and director of the law library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Laura Gasaway is a leader in the analysis and interpretation of copyright laws for libraries and higher education. She specializes in copyright law; copyright & technology; and cyberspace legal issues.

Professor Gasaway is co-author of Librarians and Copyright: A Guide to Copyright in the 1990s, and editor of Growing Pains: Adapting Copyright for Education, Libraries, and Society. Among her recent articles are "Impass: Distance Learning and Copyright," and "Copyright Considerations for Electronic Reserves." Professor Gasaway received her A.B. and M.L.S. from Texas Woman's University, and her J.D. from the University of Houston.

Georgia K. Harper

Georgia K. Harper is the manager of the Intellectual Property Section of the Office of General Counsel for the University of Texas System. She specializes in copyright law. Her well-known online publication, "The Copyright Crash Course," provides guidance to University faculty, students and staff concerning a wide range of copyright issues and is freely accessible to all universities and colleges. Ms. Harper graduated with High Honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Education and with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin’s Law School with a J.D. degree. She is a member of the Copyright Advisory Group to the Association of American Universities, the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, and the American Council on Education.

JQ Johnson

JQ Johnson combines a background in academic computing and library -- with positions ranging from former director of network services for the University of Oregon to current responsibility for providing central coordination of university faculty development activities. He has been active in crafting and providing copyright education both for instructors and for legislators. He serves as university member reprsentative to Educause and the Coalition for Networked Information. Among his recent presentations are "Creating a successful copyright education program for university faculty" and "Copyright: Author's rights and options". He holds an A.B. in mathematics from Harvard College and an M.S. in political science from Stanford University.
