Faculty Consultants Newsletter
3 March 1995
Welcome to the Faculty Consultants Network! I'm pleased to report that 38 faculty members have so far volunteered to participate in our project, and an additional 33 have expressed an interest but are not yet ready to commit to full participation. I'm attaching a list of people who have so far agreed to participate. I've also placed on-line a complete list of responses to date, including reported interests in educational technology ("ET"); see http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~jqj/fcn/FCN_members.html.
An introductory meeting of the FCN is scheduled for March 30 (Thursday) at 3pm in the Knight Library Browsing Room. In addition to giving you a chance to provide input on the evolution of our group and enjoy refresnments, this is your opportunity to get to know the other FCN members better! Mark your calendars now.
One key component of the FCN is building a network of people. I will
maintain a mailing list (fcn@darkwing.uoregon.edu) of all members of the
group. Feel free to post questions and solicit input. This message is
going both to that mailing list and to the additional faculty who have
expressed an interest.
I anticipate several activities of the FCN group during the early spring. Plans include:
- a biweekly electronic newsletter discussing events and issues (e-mail to participants, plus on WWW in http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~jqj/fcn/.
- a lecture series of invited presentations on ET, targeted at both the FCN members and the University community generally
- a colloquium series in which FCN members who wish to do so discuss their own research and ET experiences with other members of the group
- development of a referral database to assist FCN members who are either developing courseware or assisting colleagues with problems employing ET
We are also working to put together a training program for faculty. If you identify a topic and organize a group of at least 3 faculty members in your department or area interested in attending, I'll try to arrange a hands-on training workshop for them in any area of educational technology. Volunteer presenters would be most welcome!
There are several interesting events on the calendar for March. Among them are:
