Present: Brownmiller, Chadwell, Felsing, Georgitis, Harper,
Hauger, Helmer, Hixson, Kirkpatrick, Matney, Willey

The group began by discussing the survey questions and
suggested changes to them. Sara's suggestions were
considered useful, as were those made by Tom and others.
There was some discussion over whether we wanted to have 2
different surveys with different sets of questions and the
consensus was that we did not. We agreed that we want to
conduct interviews to get the questions answered.

There was discussion about standards for file formats and
whether we wanted to recommend specific standards. It was
suggested that a file format registry could help us in this area,
as well as working with sister institutions.

The group discussed the contextual document, suggested
changes, and noted that there were some missing pieces. A new
section on "what this means to you" was identified as being needed,
with Normandy volunteering to draft something for that piece of it.
It was also felt that there needed to be a section on the costs and
benefits of digital collections, with Carol indictaing she would
produce a draft of that. It was also noted that there needed to be
a section on the use of digital collections and their impact on
instruction and research. Copyright issues were also mentioned
as a missing piece of the context document. Laura Willey noted that
she had been working on this issue for another project. Laura agreed
to help review this section.

The meeting adjourned after the group agreed that the next meeting
would start off by reviewing the preservation policy, in its various
drafts.
