diglib: ArtOnFile prototype

DCC and others,

I've set up a prototype for the Art on File collections utilizing a small set of materials made available by Rob Wilkinson.  It is viewable at the following URL:
http://libweb.uoregon.edu/catdept/digcol/aaa/index.html

I've established this web-site to serve as a staging area for collaborative projects involving AAA and MDLS, so more than just the Art on File stuff will be located there.

The second and third item in the list prototype two different approaches for organizing Art on File materials.   Both were built using a subset of images from the Chatworth project of the Great Britatin: Historical Landscape Gardens Collection.

The first approach houses the project and collection level metadata from the "annotations files" in html context pages.  This seems to me the appropriate place to store this information, given its narrative nature.  Each collection will link to it's constituent projects as well as having database queries to all constituent images.  Each project's page will query for its images as well.

The second approach utilizes a compound object to corral together all the images for a project.  This allows project metadata to be stored in CONTENTdm, although I find this a far less elegant approach than the first.

There are number of questions that will need to be addressed as we proceed with this material.  There will be questions related to the images themselves, the metadata and the web pages & access mechanisms.  I will outline some of these questions and issues from my perspective in a future email.

Let me know if you have any initial feedback or questions about these prototypes.

Thanks,
Corey
