diglib: Saskia order
This message details info about another acquisition of digital images we
are making.
Chris Sundt has prepared an order to go to Saskia. We will be
purchasing the digital equivalents of 184 slides out of an order for
287. The 287 slides will go to the VRC; the 184 digital
equivalents will be mounted on the server.
As I mentioned in an earlier message, Saskia delivers digital images via
CDs/DVDs or on a hard drive. They provide the metadata
also. I assume we always want to try to get the data delivered via
hard drive. Saskia's website clearly says it depends on the size of
the order. I will check but this order probably isn't big enough to
warrant hard drive delivery. Since it is likely that the info will be
delivered on CDs, we can hold on to those until we are ready to process
the images.
The one idiosyncratic stipulation in Saskia's agreement is that we have
agreed to use Saskia's numbering system to "aid in the
identification of works." This doesn't mean we can't use
additional references, just so long as we maintain those catalog
numbers.
We are purchasing images from the Saskia collection entitled:
Architecture and Sculpture in Greece and Mexico. See:
http://www.scholarsresource.com/Browse/ViewSet.aspx?id=176. You
can see how they label the images at this page: Jga-0005.
Chris sent along a hard copy listing all the images we are ordering. I am
going to ask for this in an electronic form. She also printed off B
& W copies of each slide that are sort of viewable. This will
help with checking our order.
One other acquisition wrinkle: we have to order these online.
Any orders we get now would be credited toward the purchase of the entire
Saskia catalog (were we to ever get $180k, that is.)
In addition to the licensing info, I want to be sure some of this
acquisition info is recorded in an order record--for our future
acquisitions.
Please do not panic. I know this seems like another hurdle but it
will all work out. Since AAA folks haven't given this a priority
over the Art on File collection, these will go in the queue behind Art on
File and the Halpern images, a Greenfield fund request which is now about
2 years old.
