diglib: Fwd:U.S. Copyright Office To Examine "Orphan Works"

Robert Voelker-Morris from the Museum of Natural
and Cultural History sent this message on to the
Don Hunter project participants. It seemed appropriate
for this group, as well.

I haven't looked at this in detail. Just thought everyone would be
interested, especially with the discussion we had during the meeting
about the issue of music identification.-Robert

U.S. COPYRIGHT OFFICE TO EXAMINE "ORPHAN WORKS"

The U.S. Copyright Office has announced an inquiry into
works whose owners are difficult or impossible to
locate, known as "orphan works". According to the
Copyright Office, "the uncertainty surrounding
ownership of such works might needlessly discourage
subsequent creators and users from incorporating such
works in new creative efforts or making such works
available to the public." Written comments from
interested parties must be received on or before March
25, 2005.
