Agenda Item 1:
Review of DL Mission Statement and the Digital
Preservation Policy Statement. In the discussion,
it was noted that no document can be viewed in
isolation. Each one relates to the others to form
an overall picture of our digital collections policies.
Normandy indicated a willingness to review the preservation
policy. Faye had earlier indicated a desire to make some
changes to the mission statement.
Agenda Item 2:
There was discussion of the materials related
to the digital content survey. Some missing elements
were noted but overall it was seen as a good start.
There was discussion about whether we were interested
in this information at the collection level or the item
level. How we define a collection is an issue. It was felt that
we would need to refresh the information collected at least
once a year.
What result do we want? It was agreed that our goal is
to collect information that would help us migrate files or
emulate an environment where they would still be readable.
We also want results that can be queried, something that would
serve as a local format registry and allow us to take action
on a set of files that met a specified criteria. Corey and
Carol will be working on testing the model on one of the
existing digital collections. Ideally, we would want a
web form that would output data to a database.
Agenda Item 3:
There was no time to discuss planning a local curriculum.
