israel Adam Teva V'Din (People-Nature-Law) (also known by its English-language name, the Israel Union for Environmental Defense, or IUED) is the first public interest environmental law firm in Israel, and one of the first in the Middle East. In 1994 IUED was invited to became an office of the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide as well. It thus also functions as E-LAW Israel.

IUED has a staff of several lawyers, several scientists, and numerous others. It has established one of the first Citizen Environmental Labs in the world, which offers high-quality scientific expertise and testing equipment to environmental groups and ordinary citizens for assessing environmental pollution.

IUED has already had a substantial impact on developing environmental law in Israel. At the level of analysis, it has published the "Environmental Law in Israel Sourcebook." Press the underlined title for a gopher site that will provide the English-language version. (A later link will provide the Hebrew version.)

Adam Teva V'Din is also litigating against a proposed Trans-Israel Highway that was in the process of going forward without proper environmental impact analysis, sampling water pollution and demanding controls, and working on toxic waste siting. Its past cases include one opposing keeping dolphins in captivity.

In the last few months, Adam Teva V'Din has joined with other environmental groups in Middle East countries to co-organize a new "Eco-Peace Network," reaching across national boundaries and building bridges across decades of distrust to work with others in building a peaceful Middle East of mutual respect and cooperation at the level of citizens groups.
