Dear Andrew and Gwen:
I have been granted by the chair of the UGC the priviledge of reporting to you that earlier this afternoon (Wednesday 24 November 2004), the UO Undergraduate Council passed a motion which deals with the Oregon Transfer Module (OTM):
"The University of Oregon Undergraduate Council: a) Approves the Oregon Transfer Module, as endorsed by the Joint Boards Articulation Committee on November 19, 2004. b) Moves that the University of Oregon Senate approves the Oregon Transfer Module, as endorsed by the Joint Boards Articulation Commission on November 19, 2004, pending final approval by the Joint Boards of Education."
The full statement of the motion passed by the UO-UGC is posted on the IFS web site as does the accompanying (and required) financial impact statement (there is no financial impact).
This is a proud moment for me and I am grateful to the Committee for letting me act as their representative in this matter. I respectfully request the priviledge of the floor of the Senate at an appropriate time during the 1 December 2004 meeting to give the requisite notice of motion described in item b) of the motion in hopes of having action by the UO Senate at the 12 January 2005 meeting.
Pursuant to the discussion at the EDP summit, I transmitted to the UO Undergraduate Council the contextual background materials from the EDP summit ( JBAC cover letter, CIA letter, Provost's Council statement, IFS statement on advising). The council felt, I believe, that the matters refered to therein were not ready for action at this point in time. I shall also make these materials available to the Senate at the December meeting as part of my presentation as IFS President; I have to give a relatively large packet of materials to update the packet transmitted at the December meeting.
Respectfully submitted
Peter B Gilkey Member 2004/5 UO Undergraduate Council
