OUS Board Meeting
2/21/03
IFS mini-report:
Board Presidents Report (Jim Lussier) - Called for calm in time of difficulty, and looking for opportunities in adversity. Noted that progress was being made on several fronts.
Chancellors Report (Richard Jarvis) - Recognized importance of CIM/CAM report to be published by Shirley Clark on Monday, saying that the state performance standards in K-12 have been recently attacked but are better predictors of success in college than SAT scores and grades. Jarvis reported on several meetings with the governor and his staff, and with legislators.
Noted that the Feb. Revenue forecast will reveal a $300 million shortfall, more in May. The legislature predicts revenue will be 4% below Gov Kulongowskis budget request, which is already severe.
There will be more travel restrictions, fewer state-wide conferences, etc.
IFS Remarks (Bill Danley) - attached
OSA Remarks - With an audience of some 10-20 students with signs, the student representative advocated more student involvement in decision making, and vigorously opposed increasing of admission standards.
