NIH Protecting Human Research Participants Course

The National Institutes of Health's Office of Extramural Research offers an on-line tutorial titled Protecting Human Research Participants. The NIH training includes 7 modules covering the ethical principles that govern human subjects research in the United States. The modules do not all need to be completed at once, and the training is available 24 hours a day. Certificates for the NIH course will be honored for two years from the date of completion; after that, the researcher must re-take the course.

Getting Started

After you have completed the NIH modules, print a copy of the completion certificate for your records. If you lose your certificate, you can log in and print another copy. OPHS is not notified when a researcher completes this course, so you will need to include a copy of your certificate in your protocol application.
