| National Recognition |
| As Associate Vice President Information Services, I continue
to pursue the goal of providing world-class computing and networking support for the primary
instruction, research, and administration programs at the University of Oregon. Under my
leadership, the Computing Center has been recognized for its remarkable achievements in
these areas, winning three prestigious national awards in 1996-97: |
-
CAUSE Award for Excellence in Campus Networking: CAUSE, the association for managing
and using information resources in higher education, presented UO with its annual Award
for Excellence in Campus Networking and CAUSE96, the groups annual conference, in
December 1996. The UO garnered first-place honors in the national competition, surpassing
its peers in the classification of institutions with operating budgets over $100 million.
The previous years winner in this category was Cornell University, with a budget 10
times the UO.
-
NII Networking Award: The Computing Center was recognized by the National
Information Infrastructure in September 1996 as a semifinalist in the competition for
their annual networking award in the "Public Access" category for the UOs
contribution to the design, deployment, and administration of the Lane Education Network.
-
Yahoo!s "Americas 100 Most-Wired Colleges" Award: The UO was
recognized by this World Wide Web search engine designer as one of the six
"most-wired" campuses in the U.S. (Cited in USA Today, April 9, 1997.)
