Greetings Colleagues! And welcome to the wonderful world of History Peer Advising. The Peer Advising program is a way for students to help with those tough academic questions, such as "Will I graduate?" and "How much more money will I have to spend to graduate?" Peer Advisors are trained to answer general questions regarding University requirements and also on questions for the corresponding major or minor department. Peer Advisors have a chance to help their fellow student put together plans that can help the student succeed. In the process, the advisors themselves gain valuable experience in organization and people skills. Becoming an advisor is as easy as walking into the History Department office 275 McKenzie (formerly Grayson) Hall and saying: "I want to be a History Peer Advisor!" Besides helping your fellow man and woman, Peer Advising also looks good on resumes. Whether applying to a Graduate School, Law School, or entering the business world, Peer Advising certainly will be looked upon favorable by any institution pursued. The History Peer Advising Office has begun work on possible future lectures by former History students from a wide variety of fields, with the hopes that people who become History Majors can look forward to a future of wide variety than just pursuing a teaching or law career. For more information on becoming a History Peer Advisor, please inquire at the History Department main office in 275 McKenzie Hall or speak with Professor Robert Haskett, Undergraduate Director, in room 355 McKenzie Hall. Look forward to meeting you! "At this time I feel entitled to claim the aid of all, and I say, 'Come, then, let us go forward together with our united strength.'" -Winston Churchill |
