June 20 – August 12
Study eight centuries of History in eight weeks. Mark Peterson, PhD Wisconsin, teaches the development of Europe from the troubles of the Middle Ages to the troubles in Yugoslavia with two four-credit courses offered by the University of Oregon’s History Department.
Each class can be used to satisfy part of the Group II Social Sciences requirement for Bachelor degrees.
June 20 to July 15 - HST 102 Western Civilizations
This class covers the growth of Europe from a backward, poor region of the world to a collection of powerful nation-states, including discussion of the Black Death, the art of the Renaissance, and the French Revolution.
July 18 to August 12 - HST 103 Western Civilizations
In this class we discuss the role that Europe has had in the development of the Modern World by looking at changes in politics, work and culture in the centuries before our own. We examine why these things changed in Western society and the impact they have had on the rest of the world.
