Explore the development of the United States during the 19th Century and examine the major topics of slavery, abolitionism, women’s rights, the Civil War, Reconstruction, territorial expansion, the western frontier, Native Americans, immigration, industrialization, populism, labor, and imperialism. Trace the rise of the federal government and the private corporation from weak institutions to the most powerful in the world.

Students will work with primary sources, film, and still images in addition to a traditional text.
