SUMMER 2005

Summer Session II – 2005
July 18th-August 12th – 10 am -12 pm
HIST 382: Latin America, 1910 to the present
Instructor: Carlos Aguirre

This course covers the history of the region from 1910 (the beginning of the Mexican Revolution) to the present. It pays particular attention to the social, political, and economic transformations that have affected the development of the region throughout the twentieth century, especially revolutions, military dictatorships, social movements, globalization, and the massive efforts towards the consolidation of democracy in the region. Combining a regional approach with an in-depth analysis of specific cases, this course seeks to offer students the necessary tools for a critical understanding of the historical roots behind both the challenges and promises that Latin American countries confront today.
