A 7 to 10-page term paper in American Psychological Association Style on a topic related to the primary mentor's research is required. The American Psychological Association (2001) Publication Manual, 5th Edition is available in the library and in the bookstore. The purpose of the term paper is for you to review and synthesize the literature on a topic of your choice. The APA Style term paper should consist of four major sections: (1) Introduction to the significance of the topic (1-2 pp.); (2) Literature review (3-5 pp.); (3) Integration/synthesis of the literature (2-3 pp.); and (4) Conclusion (1 p.). In the Introduction, you should make a case for why the topic is important and how research on this topic will contribute to or advance the field. The literature review section should be organized thematically rather than by presenting a series of individual studies or articles. The integration/synthesis section should be your perspective on the issues, supported by the literature review. The conclusion should briefly summarize the paper and suggest directions for future research. You will receive written feedback on a draft of the paper before you submit the final draft. The purpose of feedback on the draft is to specifically communicate my expectations for the final draft. On the final draft, you should: (1) write a memo detailing the revisions you have made in response to my feedback; and (2) indicate in the text of the paper (e.g., italics) the specific revisions that you have made to the first draft. An advanced draft of the term paper is due on Wednesday, July 27. The final draft is due Thursday, August 4. |
