The American Violin
This disc contains works by American composers William Grant Still, Norman
Dello Joio, Aaron Copland, and Henry Cowell. The enjoyable collection of
works demonstrates a wide range of styles present in the 20th century. Henry
Cowell's suite uses tone clusters in his neo-baroque work, while William
Grant Still's work combines African-American themes in a popular romantic-jazz
idiom. Dello Joio's Variations, a wonderful example of pure "americana",
and Aaron Copland's exciting Duo round out the disc.
