The Supporting Area in Computer Music


Supporting Areas in the School of Music are designed to suppliment the principal track of study (the Primary Area). In combination, these two areas determine if the final degree is a Ph.D. or a D.M.A. Language requirements for these degrees also differ.

Course Requirements
* Electronic Music Techniques I, II (MUS 543, 544) . . . 6 credits.
* Advanced Electronic Composition (MUS 545) . . . 9 credits.
* Computer Music Applications (MUS 546) . . . 3 credits.
* Reading and Conference: History of Electroacoustic Music (MUS 605) . . . 3 credits.
* Pedagogy and Practicum in Computer Music (MUE 639) . . . 3 credits.
* Reading and Conference: Lecture Recital (MUS 605) . . . 3 credits.

Total: 27 Units.


In addition, there is a comprehensive examination which covers knowledge of synthesis techniques, digital audio, music software, the history and literature of electroacoustic music, and MIDI.
