B.S. in Music, Technology Option


Admission to the B.S. in Music, Technology Option, is accomplished through the following formal application and interview process:

1. Submit audio recordings of recent compositions (at least three). Recordings may be in audio cassette, DAT, or CD formats. If you have completed MUS 443 and MUS 444, you may submit only two examples of your work.

2. Include a statement of 1 - 2 typed pages that describes a) your experience with electronic and computer musical instruments, audio recording, and/or other related software or equipment and b) your reasons for wanting to enroll in this degree program.

3. Provide a list of software and hardware which you have worked, indicating your experience with each.Following the submission of a completed application, an interview will be scheduled with the Program Director.


IMPORTANT NOTE: Enrollment in this program is limited; therefore, some qualified applicants may be denied admission.

Group Options: 26 credits required. Suggested courses include: Composition(MUS 240-41-42, 340-41-42, 440-41-42); Schenkerian Analysis (MUS 430-31-32); Counterpoint (MUS 433-34-35); Advanced Electronic Composition (MUS 445R); Piano Literature (MUS 464-65-66); Orchestral Music (MUS 470-71-72); History of Opera ( Mus 474-5); additional performance studies (MUP XXX); additional ensembles (MUS 19X, 39X, 69X); and courses in the music of other cultures (MUS 464 - 476). Only half of the Group Option credits may be in a single area (e.g. performance, ensembles).


Ensembles: Three different terms required. List ensembles taken by term. If more than one ensemble was taken in one term, list on same line. If your primary performance medium is piano, and you are enrolled at the 171 level or above, three of the above ensemble terms must be MUS 194/394 - Top: Accompanying.


Performance Studies: At least 3 terms required, the last of which must be at the MuP 140 level or above. No more than 24 credits in performance studies will count towards the degree: a maximum of 12 each in lower-division and upper-division. Ensemble Corequesite Requirement: Each term in which you enroll in performance studies, you must also enroll in an ensemble.


Student Forum: attendance at 30 sessons required befpre graduation. General Studies
All Bachelor of Science students must complete sixteen credits in each of three groups: Arts and Letters, Science and Social Science. See the approved list of courses from the University Bulletin. Note: MUS 161-3 may not be used to fill Arts and Letters requirement.
Arts and Letters Group: 16 credits. Must include at least two courses in one subject and at least one course in a different subject/prefix.


Science Group Requirements:16 credits. Must include at least two courses in one subject and at least one course in a differenct subject/prefix. Required courses in this group are:
* PH 152 Physics of Sound and Music.
* CIS 110, CIS 111, CIS 122, 115 Concepts of Computing.


Social Science Group:16 credits. Must include at least two courses in one subject and at least one course in a different subject/prefix.


General: Required courses are WR 121 College Comp. and WR 122 or 123 College Comp.
Multicultural Requirement: Two approved courses are required. A number of Music courses fulfill this requirement. See the University Bulletin for a listing of approved courses. (These courses may also meet group requirements.)


 

General Graduation Requirements

Be sure to include additional electives to meet these requirements:
* Total credits earned: need 180. (Subtract excess Performance Studies credits.)
* Total upper-division credits: need 62.
* Total upper-division in music: need 24.
* Total graded credits: need 168, 45 of these taken at UO.
* 45 of last 60 credits completed on this campus.And meet the following deadlines:
* Apply to Registrar for graduation 2 terms before graduation date (check for specific deadline).
* Apply to School of Music for graduation by turning in this completed form by middle of final term; check again for final clearance during final week of term (see Undergraduate Coordinator).
