Christopher Minsons research is
focused on two areas of neural control of the circulation in
humans. Specifically, he is investigating the neural and vascular
interactions in the skin during environmental heat stress, with
funding from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Minson is
also studying how estrogen and progesterone impact blood pressure
regulation in young women to determine why young women are more
susceptible to fainting than men, with funding provided by the
American Heart Association. His teaching emphasis is in the areas
of cardiovascular and environmental physiology.
Dr. Minson graduated
with a B.S. degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona
in 1989. In 1993, he received his Masters degree in Exercise
Science from San Diego State University. While in San Diego,
he also worked for the Naval Health Research Center in environmental
physiology. He then went to The Pennsylvania State University
where he graduated with a Ph.D. in Exercise Science. He subsequently
trained as a post-doctoral fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota
in the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Minson joined the Department
of Exercise and Movement Science at the University of Oregon
in 2000. He recently received Young Investigator Awards from
the American Physiological Society in 2000 and the American College
of Sports Medicine in 2002.
