2002-03 Chairperson

Bob Jones has been re-appointed to the EIC for 2003-03 and reiterated his willingness to serve as chair. The Committee unanimously reelected him. Bob asked Kay Coots to provide an introduction/overview of the EIC for the benefit of new and returning members at the next meeting.

Announcement

The Lundquist College of Business has started a new undergraduate group called the Sustainable Business Group. Vera Kewene and Anne Forrestel are the faculty co-advisors. The kickoff will be a college-sponsored and university-wide invited educational event for the new Lillis Business Complex on October 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (main speakers from noon to 1:00 p.m.). Focus will be on education and celebration of its green and human-centered qualities.

The UO Sustainability Web Site is almost ready and will be sent to committee members for comments soon.

Potential Goals for the Year

Transportation issues (including fees). Some information is available in a 1996 Campus Planning Transportation Report. Christine Thompson hopes to track down and provide pointers on this report. Bob also suggested the following site:

Education and outreach to the UO community:

Promote a "sustainability" curriculum requirement?

Get energy meters (electric, water) installed in campus buildings.

UO Sustainability web site – Kay Coots, Dennis Soper, and a support person

Help to find a space to reestablish furniture surplus program.

The next Environmental Issues Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 29th, 11:00 – 12:30 in the EMU Board Room.
